Partnering with the African community to facilitate transformation
EACH DAY...
30,000 children die of hunger and preventable diseases
6,000 people die of AIDS
17 million have already died
12 million African children have lost one or both parents
About one half of all people in the world infected with HIV or AIDS are in Africa
41% of the world's children cannot attend school
6000 children in developing countries die because of lack of clean water and sanitation.
In homes with [these services] children are 60% less likely to die
2% of the world's grain harvest would be enough, if shared, to erase the problem of hunger and malnutrition around the world!
Poverty means illiteracy, inadequate medical care, disease, and brain damage
Bob and LuAnn Herring are co-founders and directors of Africa Connect, and live in the Berkshires in Western MA. They travel yearly to Kitale for at least three months, working on the ground to build the relational and administrative infrastructure for this cross-cultural partnership venture. However, this mission would not be possible without the dedicated (and all voluntary) work of our Domestic Team, the sage counsel of advisors, both American and African, and the wonderful support of the Berkshire Community.
And the real work on the ground is being led by the Kenyan Partners, the staff of Neema Care Centre, the people of Graceway Harvest Chapel and others who long to see the transformation of their own community. Their daily sacrifice for the sake of the hurting is truly inspiring.
